Your automation fires when a comment or DM contains one of your keywords. Capital letters don't matter, so "guide", "Guide" and "GUIDE" all match.
How matching works
- Anywhere in the message. "LINK" matches "can you send the link please".
- Inside longer words. A keyword of three or more characters also matches inside a bigger word. "Bright" matches "Brightest".
- Short keywords match whole words. A keyword of one or two letters or numbers, like "hi", only matches on its own. It won't fire on "this" or "ship".
- Spelling counts. A typo won't match. "GIUDE" doesn't trigger "GUIDE", so add common misspellings as extra keywords.
- Emoji work. You can use an emoji as a keyword.
- Several keywords. Add as many as you like. Any one of them fires the automation.
Add keywords
- Open the automation and click the keywords step.
- Type a keyword and press Enter.
- Repeat for each keyword, then confirm.
Reply to everything
Don't want a keyword at all? Tick Trigger on any comment in a comment automation. DM keyword and story reply automations have the same option: Reply to any message and Reply to any story reply.
Two automations, one keyword
Each comment gets one automation's reply. If two automations listen for the same word on the same post, only one of them sends. Your Home dashboard flags these keyword conflicts so you can fix them.
Pick one clear, unusual word and put it in your caption, like "Comment RECIPE". Everyday words like "yes" or "love" fire on comments that weren't asking for anything.
